Familiarisation
Portal
Created by Frog Education

Working in partnership, GL Assessment, Future Stories and GSHA are offering access to Frog Education's online Familiarisation Portal to help prepare students for entrance tests for selective schools.
The Familiarisation Portal is part of Frog’s online learning platform but is designed specifically to help Pupil Premium pupils prepare for 11+ entrance exams. Participating Grammar Schools are provided with unique logins for eligible pupils, which are then shared with their primary schools. All the content is loaded and ready to use, so there’s no setup or management needed by schools. Pupils simply log in from any device to access test-aligned materials, including practice questions, worked examples and familiarisation exercises.
The portal is designed to be simple, engaging, and accessible, helping pupils build confidence and familiarity with test formats in their own time.

Over the past five years, the portal has been successfully used by more than 60 Grammar Schools across the country, providing a proven way to improve student confidence and widen accessibility to test materials. Designed specifically with Pupil Premium pupils in mind, the portal ensures that every child has the opportunity to engage with high-quality, test-aligned resources - without any cost to families.

A video introduction to the Familiarisation Portal
What is included in the portal?
The portal is designed to introduce the concepts and areas covered in the entrance exam and to enable students to become ‘familiar’ with them through explanatory videos and audio as well as practice questions and worked examples. It allows access as often as the student likes, on any device and provides approximately 10 hours of study to help prepare the student for the examination.

Modular Sites
Sites are the foundation of Frog's portal and are used to deliver the educational content to the students. There are a range of pre-built sites which we refer to in the portal as ‘Lessons’. Each lesson is designed to cover a specific topic or element of the tests and the portal includes content for both FSCE and GL familiarisation. These lessons are flexible and can be shown/hidden depending on which exam entry the school follows AND which topics are relevant.
Lessons are self-paced, available on laptop, tablet or mobile via a modern internet
browser and can be revisited as many times as desired.
Quizzes
Many of the lessons contain quizzes. These quizzes are used for formative assessment to measure understanding within the materials – both as a baseline and as a consolidation exercise at the end of the learning materials.
Additionally, there are full practice papers in Lesson 7 based on sample questions and
questions 'in the style of' authentic 11+ examination papers which brings together the
concepts taught in the lessons.

“We have a need to level the playing field in order that we can truly identify those with academic ability rather than social privilege. These familiarisation materials and analytical tools support the learner and our schools to really make a difference in creating a more equal society.”
Tim Harris, Headteacher

“It’s a great way of helping to level the playing field for disadvantaged students by giving them access to familiarisation materials and it also demonstrates your school’s commitment to increasing the access for such students."
