What are cycles and periods?
Cycles and period are what we use as a measure of time in FrogProgress. Basically:
- Cycles are academic years
- Periods are half terms or assessment periods
We call them cycles and periods because the system is flexible. Cycles can be as long as you want and each cycle can contain up to 12 assessment periods.
Our default setup is cycles that match academic years, each containing 6 assessment periods that map to half term dates – you can change this though. What this means, is that with our default setup, you get 6 assessment points in each academic year.
This means that you can get a summary of for example:
How much of the Y3 Math’s curriculum did Billy get in Autumn 1, Autumn2, Spring 1, Spring 2, Summer 1 and Summer 2. This allows you to see how curriculum coverage or attainment has changed over time.
