Using FrogProgress
Located in the home counties, St Hilda’s is an independent day school for girls aged 3-11 years. The school includes a nursery, pre-prep and prep school.
They use their own framework to determine attainment and the school curriculum is documented and supported with plans and schemes of work for pupils. FrogProgress validates this and enables St Hilda’s to concisely assess pupil performance on a daily basis.
Looking for a solution
The school were looking for a better way to track individual students from Year 1 right through to Year 6, as paper-based monitoring of their curriculum was time consuming and ineffective. They wanted to make assessment accessible to all teachers and department heads across the curriculum.
Prior to finding Frog, the Early Years Foundation Stage unit were the only ones using an online tool for tracking children’s progress, but the solution needed to work for the whole school.
FrogProgress fitted their requirements perfectly.
Implementation
Looking to get everyone onboard with a new way of tracking pupil progress, St Hilda’s promoted the time-saving benefits of using FrogProgress through a series of staff meetings and training sessions.
It worked in their favour that their newest team members adopted Frog right away, this encouraged others to participate. FrogProgress is currently updated by staff every half-term (termly for some subjects).
Use & Impact
FrogProgress is being used in all core subjects and has really opened up conversations, allowing staff to think critically about assessment. It has helped define an effective assessment philosophy.
Faye Smith, Head of Computing at St Hilda’s School is delighted with the positive changes they’ve experienced so far:
“FrogProgress makes assessment much easier. Instead of endless paperwork, it is all uploaded quickly and easily!”
Perhaps the most important impact is that staff judgements have become much more meaningful, reflecting the school’s ethos and deep thinking around assessment. Faye continues:
“FrogProgress makes it all very visual, so you can see what areas need working on and where interventions are required.”
Independent Schools Inspectorate Report
The school received a very positive report from the Independent School Inspectorate (ISI) in their ‘Focused Compliance and Educational Quality Inspection Reports’ at the end of 2019. As a result, the school has once again been awarded the top rating of 'excellent' in both categories: pupils’ academic achievements and quality of pupils development.
"The pupils' high achievement and rapid progress is the result of well-planned and suitably paced teaching, offering different levels of challenge chosen by pupils, and excellent use of assessment information."
An outstanding result for the school and its pupils.
